15FQ+®
Reliability
Reliability
assesses the extent to which variation in measurement is due to true
differences between people on the trait measures or due to measurement
error.
Internal Consistency
The table below presents the alpha coefficients for each of the sixteen personality
factors, for both the standard (Form A) and the short (Form C) forms of the
15FQ+®. (The alpha coefficient provides a robust lower bound
estimate of the reliability of these scales.) Inspection of this table reveals
that all these scales have good levels of internal consistency, when the length
of the scales is taken into account. Most importantly, the alpha coefficients
are not sufficiently high as to suggest that these factors are measuring narrow
(i.e. highly homogeneous), surface traits.
Not surprisingly, the short form scales have significantly lower levels of reliability than do their respective long form factor equivalents. This is to be expected, and reflects the relative brevity (six versus twelve items) of the Form C scales.
Test retest reliability coefficients (over an interval of 4 weeks) ranged from 0.79 to 0.89 for Form A and 0.68 to 0.78 for Form C.
More information concerning the reliability of the 15FQ+® on various samples can be found in the 15FQ+® Manual. This information includes Test-Retest data and Internal Consistency of the Criterion-Referenced and Derived Scales.
